The vessel of “Azerbaijan” performs carrying of passengers, carriages and cars in between Baku – Turkmenistan and Baku – Aktau lines.

The Republic of Azerbaijan, member of IMO since 1995, on the MSC 97th session has been represented by a delegation led by the head of the State Maritime Administration, Mr. Gudrat Gurbanov.
There  have been held general discussions about  ensuring safety of shipping, protection of marine environment, prevention of future marine accidents, as well the fight against piracy issues that are deeply concerned by the international community at this session which was held till the 25th of November.
The proposed amendments to the International Convention for the Safety of Life at Sea (SOLAS), Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers (STCW), the International Code for Fire Safety Systems (FSS Code), the 2008 International code on Intact Stability (IS Code), the International Code for the Construction and Equipment of Ships Carrying Liquefied Gases in Bulk (IGC Code), the International Code on the Enhanced Programme of Inspections during Surveys of Bulk Carriers and Oil Tankers, 2011 (2011 ESP Code) and to the other vital  relevant documents  have been discussed at this session.
It has to be noted that, construction of a ship-structure, subdivision and stability, fire protection, fire detection and fire extinction, life-saving appliances and arrangements, special measures to enhance maritime safety, special training requirements for personnel on certain types of ships, arrangement of means of escape, enhanced programme of inspections during surveys of bulk carriers, enhanced programme of inspections during surveys of oil tankers, guidence and reccomendations for certain types of ships operated in different operations, revalidation of certificates, responsibilities of companies, guidance regarding certificates and endorsements, guidance regarding responsibilities of companies and recommended responsibilities of masters and crew members were reflected in the proposed amendments to the International Conventions and Codes
 Azerbaijan delegation held a number of bilateral meetings with the officcials of the IMO and some delegations of member states attended the session. During the meetings there was an exchange of views on more efficient and effective implementation of mutual cooperation, as well on several important issues relating to the shipping area for Azerbaijan.
 At the end of the session, according to the election results, representative of Australia-Brad Groves was elected as a chairman and representative of Argentina-Juan Carlos Cubisino as a Vice-chair of the MSC
